Long hair lain on her skin like a blanket as the snow and frigid air didn't bother her one bit. Her hair was long and thick keeping her safe from the depths of the cold. She quickly made herself a long at a fast run trying to escape the dog catcher. She then halted, looked around, and made her way down an alley before cornering herself in a dead end of a tall fence and a dumpster. SWhe could probably get over the fence if she could find a way atop the dumpster. She turned around, frantic about what she should do and saw the Dog Catcher ten feet away from her and she was frozen there like a derr in the headlights.

Sage sniffed the air in distaste. He could hear the voices of humans and smelt the sweat and anger of the most distinct human of all, the dogcatcher. Creeping forward from where he was hidden behind a dumpster full of food – also that night’s dinner – Sage saw a dog make a run for the alley he was in. Sure enough, not ten feet away approached the dog catcher.
The other dog seemed to frantically be trying to find a way out of her dead end. Sage looked around and noticed a plastic box – one the humans used to deliver milk in – half sticking out of the open side of the dumpster. In a bound his powerful legs helped him to the dumpster lid, and a few quick scrambles with his paws had him atop it.
Racing now, against the shouts from the dogcatcher that he’d ‘seen another’ Sage nuzzled the carton until it fell to the ground, mercifully with the bottom facing up.
‘Quick,’ he urged to the other dog, glancing back once to see if she was following before making a leap over the fence. He landed on the other side with a whine as he struck the ground and fell to his side, promptly climbing back up and searching frantically for the other dog.

Mahogany pools fell upon the other dog as he had made a loud noise atop the dumpster lid and she saw as he had pushed the crate to the ground. She frantically looked behind her and dodged the catch pole and jumped atop the crate and then the dumpster before readying herself to jump the fence and heard the other dog yelp as he hit. She decided it was now or never. She lept the fence and landed on her pads with somewhat of a stumble and she looked to the other dog. Her auds then caught the sounds as the catcher was yelling and cussing at them for getting away. She then turned her attention to the other dog and caught her breath. Thank you. I'm Kina by the way.

As Sage stood up with a small grimace, he watched the female dog dodge the dogcatcher and fly over the fence. Her landing was somewhat more graceful then his. Not that he was particularly surprised, he never had seemed to grow into his overly large paws.
Sage was happy to hear the dogcatcher using all manner of angry human words which meant he was extremely displeased. This seemed to tell Sage he had been doing his job. Not without a little help of course. He turned to the female who had regrouped and suddenly introduced herself.
‘Not a problem, Kina. Anything that annoys those humans is alright with me,’ Sage joked. ‘I’m Sagino. Sage,’ he amended after a beat. ‘You should be more careful. How did you get him on your trail in the first place?’ Sage turned and began to walk away, not wanting to be caught on the other side of the alley if the dog catcher decided to try his luck and drove around. He turned his head back to Kina to see if she would follow.

Kina followed as she listened to what he said. She thought for a bit to see really how she got in the perdicament. I don't really know. I just know that one second I'm just sitting down, watching cars go by and the next the stupid human is after me. I hate them. None of them have ever really liked me at all. I could probably be in a pound right now if you hadn't been there. Thank you again. I don't know how I could pay you back for what you did. She smiled at him as she continued to follow right next to him. She looked alot like him just with extra long hair and of course she was a different breed.

Sage stepped carefully from the alley, listening for any sounds of the dogcatcher as well as taking in Kina’s story beside him. Hearing nothing, he trotted on out.
‘I know, I just don’t see why they can’t let us alone. I mean, all we do is sleep on the street and eat stuff they don’t want. What are we doing wrong? I’ve never attacked anyone unprovoked – have you?’ As he didn’t really need an answer for that, Sage ploughed on. ‘And really, don’t worry about it. Although I must say I’m hungry after that exercise. Fancy something to eat? I know a great digs?’ he joked, talking about the bins in his alley.

She thought about the question and didn't answer realising he didn't need, or probably want the answer. He then mentioned food. Oh she was so hungry. She hadn't eaten all day and just realised that she was starving. I would love something to eat. I'm starving. She smiled at him as her stomach growled.

Sage smiled back cheerfully enough and picked up the pace, satisfied that the dogcatcher had headed back to the pound, or at least was on someone else’s trail now as he rounded corner after corner and arrived at his alley.
‘This is Haven Alley…mine.’ He couldn’t help feeling proud of the fact that he had made a home for himself even after the humans had thrown him out. He trotted into the alley, doing a quick inspection to ensure no unwanted visitors had arrived whilst he was gone before jumping onto the box beside his favourite dumpster and all but falling in.
A few seconds later, realising he had sort of left Kina behind, Sage poked his head out, a large slice of pizza in his mouth and threw it to the ground.
‘In case you don’t feel like dealing with any more dumpsters for the day,’ he joked, burying himself back down again to hunt for the nicer foods.
