Sage had to admit he was caught by surprise as the massive dog lunged for him, flying over his shoulder and aiming his teeth for Sage’s side. The German Shepherd leaned away, thanking god for the first time for his runt size. It resulted in many a dog underestimating where to bite and his twist made the Doberman’s teeth fall just short. Sage growled to himself as he felt the larger dog’s breath on his side, telling him just how close it had been.
He scooted his backside around so he was facing the Doberman and snarled launching straight for the larger dog’s throat from behind, at the last moment swerving away so the blow didn’t hit. He was just worrying the larger animal for the moment, in the hopes that this fight didn’t escalate too much. Whatever he was, Sage wasn’t a violent animal.

Sage felt teeth nip the edge of his ear and yelped softly in protest. That definitely drew blood, he decided firmly as he circled away. His feet padded softly against the cement, his cement, he reminded himself firmly. This was what he was fighting for.
He could hear the noise of the patrons in the restaurants and the lorries bundling past on the roads at either end. He hoped no one came and disturbed this. This was between him and the mongrel.
Sage launched himself again, going for the middle of the brute’s stomach, hoping it would be enough to either plow him to the ground, or force him to take a good few steps backwards.

Sage hurried to back off the larger dog once he had knocked him to the ground. To attempt to pin him down would have been folly, as he would have soon been the one underneath with no escape. It appeared that the Doberman had gone completely feral as he charged straight at Sage, jaws wide open. Sage glanced at his surroundings and decided to take height advantage for a minute and leapt onto the stacking of milk boxes beside him, climbing onto one which had two stacked on top one another and grimacing as he realise the large dog could quite possibly barrel straight through and send him to the ground anyway.
Sagino pushed off with his hind legs and tried to force himself to jump the massive beast, but the cartons were stacked precariously and fell as soon as he kicked, lessening his propulsion enormously. He fell, his back paws clipping something, maybe the Doberman’s hindquarters, and Sage fell head over heels to the ground.
With a small whine of pain, he could now feel his head and tail bleeding, Sage climbed to his feet and backed up a few meters, snarling defensively at the Doberman.
‘This is my home, and I won’t give up another one!’ he told himself fiercely, and out loud though he no intention of doing that. He had been kicked out of his first home for reasons he had no control over. This time he had control, and he was going to hold onto his alley or die trying.

Sage felt his anger try to cloud his judgement as he was insulted by his opponent.
‘And why, when there were four dumpsters chock full, did you see the need to try and take mine?’ he snarled irately. This was his territory, and no upstart Doberman having a bad hair day was going to take it from him. ‘This is my alley. If you wanted food, all you hadda do was go through me. But right now, I’m gonna go through you!’ as he finished his sentence, Sage took a running leap towards the other dog, snarling and snapping at his muzzle as he landed directly in front.

Sage stood triumphantly as the other dog turned and walked off. If he had been a lesser dog, he would have jumped the arrogant fool from behind, but instead enjoyed the adrenaline rushing through his body as he let out a loud triumphant howl, then quieted in case any dogcatchers were nearby.
His ear was bleeding horrible and he was sure the tip of it resided within the other dog’s stomach but he had been victorious!
With a soft growl, Sage turned back to his chicken, lying down to chew on it, but every muscle in his body quivering in readiness in case the other dog came back. Eventually though, Sage settled into a comfortable doze, one large paw resting on his food, and dreamed of battling dragons.
